Crayfishing around Tasmania
Fishermen are perhaps the last true hunter gatherers. They live by their wits, their unrelenting hard labor and hard won experience. Their lives are spent in tossing boats out in the open sea. Their hours are not determined by a ticking clock, but by the seasons of the year, the vagaries of the weather and the habits of their prey. Theirs is a life of unbounded independence that many might envy, but few would be prepared to share. Ten very experienced men provide us with a snapshot of what it has been like to be a crayfishing around Tasmania in the last 60 years. Amply illustrated with new and archival footage and photos. Also includes footage aboard the crayfishing boat “Eumeralla” off the west coast of Tasmania.
