Wooden ships & Stockmen

Wooden ships

Dodging ships and weathering gale, the small ships were the lifeblood of the islands, bring in the necessities of life and taking away island produce including livestock, dairy produce and mutton birds in season. We hear from the people who were there and did it all. The Stackhouse brothers, Alf and Brian, have raised stock on some of the outer islands for over 60 years. They are the last of their kind. Now in their mid 80’s they are considering giving it up. They plan to remove their stock from the islands. This will be their last muster. These islands will revert to the wild and another colorful chapter will come to an end
